REFLECT Infra-Red Reflective Finishes

REFLECT is an infra-red reflective coating that keeps substrates cooler even when dark or deep colors are utilized that traditionally are heat absorbent. An example of the use of REFLECT 3000 and REFLECT 5000 is the renovation of metal roofs, curtain walls, sidewalls, playground equipment and handrails to reduce substrate heating. By lowering substrate temperatures, expansion and contraction of the structure is reduced and the lifecycle of the coating system is extended.  In some cases, dependent on structure type, insulation and location, energy costs for cooling can be reduced.

REFLECT 3000

REFLECT 3000 keeps substrates cooler by integrating infra-red reflective pigments. Deep blues, reds, greens, browns and even black are amazingly cool to the touch. REFLECT 3000 is an infra-red reflective aliphatic polyurethane coating system used on metal roofs, siding, curtain wall, hand rails, benches and playground equipment to reduce substrate heating. By using infra-red reflective pigments in the formulation of REFLECT 3000, the heat absorption (infra-red radiation) that is normally associated with deep and dark colors is actually reflected, thus reducing the surface and substrate temperatures normally associated with deep and dark colors.

REFLECT 5000

REFLECT 5000 is an infra-red reflective polysiloxane coating system used on metal roofs, siding, curtain wall, hand rails, benches and playground equipment to reduce substrate heating.  By using infra-red reflective pigments in the formulation of Reflect 5000, the heat absorption (infra-red radiation) that is normally associated with deep and dark colors is actually reflected, thus reducing the surface and substrate temperatures normally associated with deep and dark colors.

How REFLECT 3000 and REFLECT 5000 Work

In the visible spectrum REFLECT 3000 and REFLECT 5000 may appear to be a deep blue, dark brown or jet black yet when viewed in the infra-red spectrum, deep blue becomes light blue, dark brown becomes tan and jet black becomes a medium gray. Thus the coatings do not absorb as much heat as a deep blue, dark brown or jet black surface, rather the heat absorption is that of a light blue, tan or medium gray coated surface.

Developed originally as an infra-red camouflage pigment, more recently as a low solar absorbent deck coating for aircraft carrier decks, inorganic infra-red reflective pigments are created through a heat process that provides strong visible spectrum color yet reduced heat absorption in the infra-red spectrum.

Architectural Uses of REFLECT 3000 and REFLECT 5000
