SlipShield® Slip Resistant Coating -

SlipShield® Slip Resistant Floor Coating is a slip-resistant, extended life-cycle coating that is applied to interior and exterior ceramic tile, polished stone, polished concrete, coated flooring, and metal decking to attain acceptable slip resistance in both dry and wet environments.  SlipShield® is easily cleaned and very durable.  SlipShield® is available in both clear and solid colors in gloss and low semi-gloss finishes.  SlipShield® clear provides a weatherable, ultra-violet resistant surface that allows the structure and beauty of tile, polished stone and polished concrete to show through while an acceptable Coefficient of Friction can be attained for slip resistance.

If extra slip resistance is needed due to water, splash, and spill, steep ramps or stairs, a specialized aggregate can be added to SlipShield® to further increase slip resistance on difficult exterior and interior surfaces. The addition of our unique aggregate in SlipShield® provides improved slip resistance with minimal aesthetic impact on tile, polished stone, polished concrete, coated flooring, and metal decking.

The application plays an important role in optimizing the Coefficient of Friction with SlipShield®.  Flooring installation professionals are best equipped to install SlipShield®.  It is recommended that a mock-up or test area should be installed to determine the suitability of SlipShield® for the flooring project.  An end of project audit should also be performed to confirm that the results expected from the mock-up are achieved.

SlipShield® is a low odor anti-slip coating system and can be applied in occupied space.  SlipShield® is recommended for substrates that have been protected against moisture transmission from beneath, including the soil, and registers less than 4 lbs. per 1,000 square feet in 24 hours per ASTM F 1869.  SlipShield® should not be applied on exterior walkways and decks that have not been engineered to protect against moisture transmission.

How SlipShield® Works

SlipShield® is an extended life cycle weatherable coating system that creates a consistent polymeric structure throughout the film. This polymeric structure provides slip resistance as long as the film remains on the surface of the substrate, whether new or worn.

Determining the Suitability of SlipShield® for Floors

The purpose of this test is to ensure and approve the suitability of SlipShield® for its intended use including measuring the Coefficient of Friction (COF) of the surface before and after applying SlipShield® to the mock-up to verify and approve the adequacy of the product for the specific situation.

Prior to applying the mock-up, test the Coefficient of Friction (COF) of the existing floor

SlipShield® sample shall be applied over the cleaned and prepared substrate.

  • An audit of the cured mock-up shall be completed to determine the suitability of SlipShield® for the project
  • Static Coefficient of Friction Testing for Dry Areas (ANSI/NFSI B101.1-2009)
  • Dynamic Coefficient of Friction Testing for Wet Areas (ANSI/NFSI B101.3-2012)

Application

Precision SlipShield®, an advanced polymer, is installed by professional flooring applicators. SlipShield® has a low, slightly medicinal odor during application. Areas sealed with SlipShield® can be returned to light to moderate pedestrian traffic service in 24-48 hours at 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Auditing the Finished Floor for Coefficient of Friction

SlipShield® applied as a safety flooring system should be audited to ensure it meets the slip-resistant requirements of the area and conditions for which it is being applied.

  • Dry areas should be tested to ANSI/NFSI B101.1-2009 test method for measuring wet static coefficient of friction.
  • Wet areas, or areas where wet conditions occur should be tested to the ANSI/NFSI B101.3 -2012 test method for measuring wet dynamic coefficient of friction.

Maintenance

Precision Coating's SlipShield® can be cleaned and maintained with water and mild non-abrasive detergent cleaning. To optimize and maintain its slip-resistant properties SlipShield® should NOT be waxed, abraded, polished or burnished.
